Christmas tree bokeh

Do you know about bokeh? I first learned about it from my sister, during a trip to NYC last year at Christmastime. I remember she fiddled with her (then brand-new) Nikon for what seemed like a million years to get this picture:

and I couldn’t figure out why.

Now, a year and one brand-new Nikon of my own later, I get it! Bokeh has to do with – in non-photographers terms – an out of focus picture that looks pretty.

I recently stumbled across a blog post about making different shape bokeh pictures using your Christmas tree lights, and I couldn’t WAIT to try it out. I subsequently missed both dinner and my bedtime, but here’s some cool pictures I took!
